Southland Container began operation in Inman, SC in March 1983 with 12 employees and 20,000 square feet. From the beginning, the business model has been to provide customers with exceptional service so that Southland and its customers achieve mutual growth.
The company experienced rapid growth in the early years, leading to the expansion of the facilities in Inman, SC to better accommodate warehousing programs for our customers as well as a full range of production equipment.
The first expansion outside our original market came in April 1989 when we opened a full manufacturing facility in Lexington, KY. The Lexington location began in a 52,000 sq. ft. facility and has expanded rapidly since opening the doors.
While expanding operations to Lexington, KY - the Inman, SC location continued to grow.
The square footage of the Inman location more than tripled in the first 7 years of operation, (as evidenced by the picture to the right of the facility at the time).
Southland Container acquired Flag City Container in April of 1991, which led to the opening of Corwood Container in Findlay, OH. Along with the Findlay plant, an assembly plant was opened in Willard, OH. We acquired Sutlive Packaging in August 1992, located in Norcross, GA.
The decision was made in 1993 to change the name of the company from Southland Container to CONCEPT PACKAGING GROUP.
The name change allowed all facilities to operate under the same company name and expressed the evolution from a corrugated company to one focused on providing TOTAL packaging solutions to its customers.
CPG continued to grow by acquiring Comtec Packaging in Raleigh, NC in 1996 and March Specialty Packaging in Chattanooga, TN in 1997.
These additions continued the company's strategy of development along the I-85 and I-26 corridors and commitment to providing various sorts of packaging solutions.
The Inman facility was expanded again - with the addition of 50,000 square foot warehouse space, increasing the total capacity to 200,000 sq. ft.

Concept Packaging moved from Cynthiana, KY to a 33 acre / 250,000 sq. ft. facility in Georgetown, KY in January of 2006.
The move allowed us to consolidate 5 separate operations into one & provide better access to our customers along the I-75 and I-64 interstates.
